ENVIRONMENTAL PILLAGING AT
BLACKBURN LAKES SANCTUARY

BIG BUSINESS EXPLOITERS AT THEIR WORST

BUT WHAT ABOUT A SAY FOR DISTRICT RESIDENTS?

Unobtrusive Victorian Deaf Society facilities adjoining the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary, established over a century ago, have been subject to a behind closed doors deal for gobbling up by big business interests, for profits from redevelopment as a residential apartment complex, and a multi-storey aged care facility with on site staff accommodation.

This grab for Deaf Society land is not just a minor development, but involves an extensive transformation of the site, which by its very intrinsic nature, will change the natural ambience of the sanctuary, and the local area - forever.

The vision that is at the core of the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary would seem so far removed from this proposed development, that it is almost inconceivable such exploitation would be contemplated for short term gains for monied interests.

And if the Deaf Society, which has been supported by community funds over generations, has outlived the site for its purposes, should something be returned to the community in a never to be repeated opportunity for the sanctuary to be extended?

District residents would well understand that this area of Blackburn is unique in its concept - a bush estate format for single occupant/family housing, complimented by the sanctuary as a virtual oasis. It provides an opportunity for suburban dwellers to continue to experience the every day enjoyment of a near native bush environment, and that peace and tranquillity which adds to the quality of life, so missing from much of the sprawl formed in the new soulless housing estates, where residents are piled in like sardines to maximise $$$ returns to land exploiters, banks, and the building industry.

The Blackburn Lake and surrounds is not a suburb that just happened as an adjunct of settlement. The original planners saw beyond the exploitive dollar to create this near natural order of harmonious living, reflected in the street scapes, the retention of the native vegetation, the form of housing and the size of the blocks, etc. It is a visionary outlook found virtually nowhere else in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Should local residents therefore have a say in what is now proposed, or is it all just for the Regis Group/Deaf Society to decide on the extensive redefining of this site, and the resultant effect on the community.

WHAT CAN BE DONE?

Barresi/Doyle/Honeywood of the Liberal Party won’t help you.
The largest contributors of funds for the Liberal Party are developers. And for the purpose of creating demand in the building industry, Liberal politicians have overseen developers’ calls for the highest immigration in decades - some 140,000 a year. It is this expansive population growth that is subjecting Aussies to radical change in their suburbs, that is now undermining our quality of life.

Our arid continent is unable to support even the existing population, and the environmental decline is becoming readilly apparent, but none of this is of any consequence to Liberal politicians who forever dance to the tune of big business and immigration advocates. Their paramount values are materialism and consumerism.

Bracks/Robinson/Marshall of the Labor Party won’t help you.
The ALP has devised the so called Melbourne 2030 plan, that accepts the exploiters agenda for extensive redevelopment of urban areas. It is being exposed as a fraud; yet, despite ALP rhetoric, they continue to serve these same vested interests. Its VCAT system is only a developers’ rubber stamp, including senior adjudicators born overseas, who care not one iota about Aussie traditions and lifestyle. Bracks even wants another million migrants dumped into our suburbs. No, Nothing can be expected from ALP politicians.

AUSTRALIA FIRST CAN HELP.
The Australia First Party, was founded in 1996 by Graeme Campbell, former Member of Parliament for Kalgoolie. This visionary of an Australian, has spoken extensively about what is at the core of the speculative type economy reflected in these land grabs - the resources, land exploitive, and immigration-driven “trinket sale” type, set up as a replacement of our Australian manufacturing and industrial base, as required by promoters of globalism and internationalists. Graeme has toiled tirelessly against de-industrialisation.

Australia First has a core policy of Citizens Initiated Referenda [CIR] to return control over the political process to the citizen, and freedom from these vested interests who direct establishment political parties. CIR fulfills our Australian democratic tradition, which enshrines citizens with an entitlement to popular authority - not a “shamocracy”, but a real voice that binds political representatives to follow their wishes.

Australia First calls on citizens to stiffen their resolve to enforce democratic input, and to take back control of affairs that effect them. In this instance, by participating in our plebiscite to determine if the community is for or against this Regis Group land grab.

As an alternative, an Australia First plan - our visionary Bush Estate concept, is put forward for this Deaf Society land to be purchased for inclusion in the sanctuary. This will ensure your suburb remains as you want it, and add to retaining eco-diversity in the region, for the benefit and enjoyment of citizens, now and in the future.

Copies of the plebiscite, and the AF Bush Estate plan can be downloaded from our web site, or by writing to: Australia First Party - P.O. Box 223, Croydon, 3136.
